Eloise Phillips Stokes, 98

Mrs. Eloise Phillips Stokes was born January 1, 1921 to the late Reverend Arthur Paul Phillips and the late Mrs. Eliza Thomas Phillips. She was a proud alumnus of Dasher High School, Valdosta, Georgia. Eloise retired from the Brooks County School System.

She united with Christ at an early age and joined the Elam Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her father. Eloise was a very active member of the Elam Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church mother, choir member, past church secretary, and any other duties needed. Eloise was one of the founders of the Phillips, Aikins, Cody Family Reunion and a member of the I Need Help Singers.

Eloise married the late Peter Stokes and unto this union three beautiful children were born; Annie Lee, Peter Jr. and Robert.

Left to carry her mantle: Her children; Peter Stokes, Jr., Buffalo, NY, Annie Lee Williams, Quitman, and Betty Hill, Miami, FL; a host of grands, great grands, great-great grands, nieces, and nephews, sister-in-law, Bertha Austin, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Bethel AME Church in Quitman, with Pastor James Huewitt officiating. Burial followed at Elam Baptist Church Cemetery in Quitman.
