Disaster Recovery Center closing Thursday

The Disaster Recovery Center in Quitman will be closing at the end of business day on Thursday, November 2, as opposed to the original closing date of November 6. The DRC is located at the Brooks County Ag Building at 400 E. Courtland Ave in Quitman.

Citizens are encouraged to visit and report any storm damage if they haven’t done so already.  Although the site will be closed, citizens will still be able to report damages to FEMA online at disasterassistance.gov or telephone number 1-800-621-3362. Brooks County citizens can also visit Cook County DRC in Adel until November 6. The address in Cook County is 206 E 9th Street Adel, GA. 31620.

A FEMA mitigation team will be located in the Stone’s Hardware store parking lot at 1106 West Screven Street in Quitman and will be assisting citizens on how to rebuild homes or properties damaged during the Hurricane. They will be on scene from October 30 through November 3 from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. On Saturday they will be there from 8:30 a.m.  until 4:00 p.m.

Brooks County is also asking any citizens, churches, or groups that volunteered helping the community during the storm, please reach out to EMA Director LaToya Hampton to report this information. They will need name, date, services that were volunteered, equipment used and hours of services documented to report to FEMA. If there are any questions, please feel free to contact Hampton at 229-263-4262 or by email at lhampton@brookscountyga.gov.

“We are rebuilding one day at a time and are Brooks County Strong,” said Hampton in a statement.
