Trojans advance 35-6 over Metter Tigers

The Trojans advanced to the State AA Semi Finals with a 35-6 win over the Metter Tigers on the road Friday. The game was much closer than the final score as Metter was a formidable opponent.

The game got off to an inauspicious start as the Trojans failed to field the opening kickoff and the Tigers took advantage of the great field position scoring to make it 7-0. The nightmare continued throughout the first half with fumbles, dropped passes, and questionable calls had the Trojans on their heels. It also didn’t help that Metter had an impressive, aggressive front seven and a #1 that no one could block.

Right before half, the Trojans got the break they needed recovering a fumble around the ten yard line with 1 minute to play. Tay Burrus threw a 5 yard touchdown pass to Willie Mack Brown to give the Trojans a relieving 7-6 halftime lead.

The second half was more like the Trojans have been playing during this hot streak. Omari Arnold had a 71 yard TD run and finished with 169 yards rushing. Tay Burrus was 13-17 passing for 186 yards and 2 touchdowns. James Huewitt put the game on ice with 65 hard earned yard in the 4th quarter. Earnest Whitfield put the game away with a 38 yard pick six.

The BoneCrusher defense was stout all night long as a group. Metters big physical running backs could never get untracked as the Trojans swarmed to tackle them near the line of scrimmage. When the Tigers did try to pass, the tag team tandem of Joquan Dawson and Jayshon Baker kept the heat on.

The semifinal game will be held at Callaway who has blown out every opponent this season. They have a running committed to Auburn but in addition they have stars all around. The Trojans must continue to practice hard, improve kick coverage and punt return, and eliminate turnovers to be in the game.
